Summary |
Varicose veins usually appear in the lower legs – appearing distended, widened and at times, twisted. Varicose veins may look frightening, invoking thoughts of severe health issues. But luckily, the veins affected by this condition lie just under the skin, known as superficial veins. Some individuals have no symptoms besides the obvious swelling, but others experience swelling, aching legs, muscle cramps and a feeling of heaviness in the legs.
There are many ways to address this issue; some individuals seek out medical treatments, while others seek out more holistic avenues. For instance, Horse Chestnut, Horsetail (Equisetum arvense), Pycnogenol, St. John's Wort, Yarrow, and Arnica root are commonly used in these formulas. However, Herb Pharm White Oak Extract, a tincture, has become popular among some people seeking to alleviate this issue, as well as those seeking a way to ease spider veins.

White Oak Bark is indigenous England, but it now is cultivated in the U.S. – found mostly in the East. Many people are already familiar with it because it is used to make cabinets, tables and other furniture. Its acorns were once used as a foodstuff by Native Americans, who leached, dried and ground them into flour. For medical purposes, the key substances in White Oak are Tannin and Quercin. Tannins are commonly found in its bark at approximately 11 percent, giving it some astringent qualities. It also contains an interesting mix of healthy minerals, such as Manganese, Calcium and Zinc.
White Oak Bark has traditionally been used as an astringent to ease swollen tissues, as well as regulate bleeding. It has also been used to address issues having to do with the digestive tract, as well as the gums and throat. However, as far as vein health is concerned, it has been used on occasion to reduce inflammation, while also strengthening blood vessels..

The one thing we really like about this developer is that they are said to be invested in maintaining the bioactive compounds contained in White Oak. In order to do this, they claim to hand-harvest it in early spring, while also shade drying it, before converting it into a tincture. As of review, there is very little information about the abilities of White Oak in general, and its abilities to ease varicose and spider veins in particular. For this reason, we would have liked to have seen them provide more information about this issue. However, none is posted at this time, which is disappointing to us, but not entirely unexpected given the lack of information available to support its use in augmenting vein health.

 | Final Thoughts |
|
Doctors often refer to varicose and spider veins as a chronic venous insufficiency, or CVI, because of its link to circulation problems. These issues are caused by a basic weakness in the veins themselves, and the valves in the veins which enable the blood to move upward toward the heart. When the valves weaken, the blood backs up, thereby causing the weakened vein walls to bulge. Some people may opt to try Herb Pharm White Oak Extract, but while it may ease some of the symptoms, we feel it is not the most aggressive holistic avenue available.
Many people, by the time they realize they have these issues, desire and need more aggressive support than White Oak Bark may give. For this reason, we always suggest seeking out formulas that use proven and hard-hitting extracts and elements. Research demonstrates one of the more effective elements is Diosmin 95®, which has been shown in a variety of studies to increase vein wall integrity, while also augmenting the elastically and strength of the valves, preventing blood from backing up. It is rare to find an elements that augments both these issues, which is why Diosmin 95®, has become so heavily sought after by people looking to prevent and reverse varicose and spider veins.
