Horse Chestnut is perhaps the most widely used herbal extract for varicose and spider veins. This herb is believed to have the ability to soothe and relieve the swelling associated with varicose veins. This is because Aescin, the active component in Horse Chestnut, is thought to block the release of enzymes that may damage capillary walls, thereby creating vein issues. In one study, oral Horse Chestnut Extract showed an ability to ease the signs and symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency more effectively than a placebo.

Butcher’s Broom Extract has a history of being used by Europeans to increase vein health and circulation. Gotu Kola Extract is used to boost the flow of blood throughout the body, as well as ease vein swelling and “heavy legs”. Hesperiden, along with Vitamin C, is used to strengthen capillary walls.

Bilberry Extract is not commonly used to ease varicose veins.
